Our Progam

The Barton Reading and Spelling Program

We use the Barton Reading and Spelling Program, designed by Susan Barton, which is an Orton-Gillingham based structured literacy program. This program uses multi-sensory, direct, explicit, and sequential instruction.

What makes us successful:

• We provide direct one-on-one instruction in two, fifty-minute sessions per week with each student

• We customize the pace of our instruction to help students progress as quickly as they can, but as slowly as they need

• We provide ongoing instruction to our students to help close the learning gaps as quickly as possible

Our Methods of Instruction

• Multisensory – students manipulate colorful tiles that represent different sounds and parts of words

• Explicit – all rules and the exceptions to the rules are taught and students are given opportunity to master these skills

• Simultaneous and Systematic – The skills and concepts are taught in an order that makes sense to the student. We connect logic with learning

• Assessment – We ensure mastery before moving on to the next level
